Delicate Balance

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? Psalm 8: 3-4

Have you ever been captivated by an act of nature?

I once spent five minutes rambling about the beauty of fluffy, white clouds against the bright, blue sky to two work colleagues as we sat on a bench outside. I can only laugh now when I think about what they must’ve thought of my childlike amazement of this common view. I’m sure I sounded crazy! The truth is, on that day, it was like I was seeing this ordinary scenery for the first time with fresh eyes. So much so, that I went home and wrote a poem about it! Hilarious, right? What was I thinking?

Well, you should know that I love to write poetry. But still, who does that?

I was simply captivated by the beauty of God’s creation. After seven years of not attending church and putting much thought into my relationship with God, I had recommitted myself to pursuing a relationship with Jesus. He had touched my life in a new way and I had been forever changed by it. It’s no surprise that after I started seeking God’s presence in my life, I started to see his creation in a new way.

What about YOU? When was the last time you looked around and took into account all the wonders that surround you?

I’m often taken aback by the delicate balance of God’s creation. Earth is the only planet specifically designed for human life. Our atmosphere has the appropriate gases with the appropriate ratios to sustain not just human life, but all living things.

If the ratio of these gases were even one percent higher or lower, it would throw everything else out of balance, causing total destruction of life. God thought of everything when creating our planet. Every system is balanced and organized to work in harmony with the other systems. One could ponder the complexities of our own human body for a lifetime and never cease to be amazed. Who could be so mindful of us, but a God of infinite wisdom and power?

As you go about your day, stop and be captivated by God’s creation, knowing you are His greatest creation for He made you in His image. I encourage you to draw near to Him, giving over all that concerns you to the One who cares for you.
