Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. Psalm 27:14
The Lord is wonderfully good to those who wait for Him and seek Him. Lamentations 3:25
But when you ask Him, be sure that you really expect Him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:6-7
I remember playing in my grandmother’s backyard as a young child, and realizing I had lost my bobby pin. Looking for a bobby pin anywhere would be hard since it is so thin and tiny, but especially in my grandmother’s backyard because it was covered in brown, dead pine needles! When I asked my sisters to help me find it, they looked around for a few seconds, but quickly abandoned the search. I didn’t blame them.
The idea that we were going to find it seemed quite impossible. As they ran down the hill to go play, I sat down on the ground in the middle of all those brown pine needles and I closed my eyes. I remember saying “God you know where that bobby pin is. Can you help me find it?” And when I opened my eyes I began looking around, expecting God to point it out. I glanced over to my left, looked down, and to my delight there lay my bobby pin. It is my earliest memory of praying to God and Him answering my prayer. I cherish this memory and think about it whenever my faith needs building.
There have been many, many moments in my life where this similar scenario has played out. Waiting for God and expecting Him to show up for me. Of course, the problems have become bigger but so has my faith. Because each time he shows up for me, my trust in Him grows.
Perhaps you are in a moment of waiting in your life. You’ve cried out to God and entrusted your concerns to Him, only things seem to be getting worse and doubt has filled your heart. You may feel like waiting and complaining instead of waiting and expecting. I’ve been there!
Maybe you’ve decided that God is taking too long and you’re done waiting. You are going to forge your own way. I’ve been there, too. Waiting is one of the hardest things to do, but it can be where you grow the most in your relationship with God. While we are waiting on God to show up, He doesn’t often include us in on His plan. But He does some of his best work in us while we are waiting. He cares where you are in your walk with Him.
He is your heavenly father, and as such, He may use this waiting time to correct some behaviors or attitudes that have been steering you wrong. He may want to replace some of your ways of thinking with His way of thinking. So I encourage you to keep waiting……………….and EXPECTING!
God is forever faithful. He works all things for good for those that love Him. Focusing on your circumstances, instead of God, will allow doubt to creep in. But those who focus on God “will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31.
